Chia seeds originate from South America and have been used as a food for thousands of years by the Mayans and Aztecs. Recently chia seeds have been labelled a complete super food as they are one of the richest plant sources of Omega 3, dietary fibre and protein. These nutrient dense seeds also contain a wide range of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids and fatty acids.

How to Use chia seeds

• Sprinkle over cereal or porridge
• Add to fruit and yoghurt
• Mix into smoothies and juices – will make the drink thicken
• Use to thicken sauces or casseroles
• Mix into baking – muffins, slices etc
• Mix into salad dressings – will naturally thicken them
• Add 1 tablespoon to a glass of water – the seeds will swell and form a gel like substance.
